Abuse,
Drugs and drinking.
For so long,
Its all that has been known.
Letting the pain,
Pass away.
With one more drink,
And one more pill.

Slipping away,
With every sip.
Drowning the pain,
In a bottle of alcohol.
Drugs by prescription.
Hardly ever the other.
Still though,
Making one forget.

Daddy molested,
His little girl.
None had known,
Or perhaps didn't care.
Years go by,
Always the same.
But with a different guy,
Making it harder every time.

Now she stands,
On her own two feet.
This little girl,
Had grown tired of being weak.
Hating the touch,
Of anyone so close.
Specially from a man,
That takes what is not given.

Forgetting the abuse,
Drugs and drinking.
She lives her life,
Day by day.
Letting the addiction,
Slip on by.
Everything remembered,
Though still standing strong.

The pain of abuse finally confronted; no more hiding behind life's numbing addictions. Yet while standing tall and free a path has been set before you based on this history.

A way of escape...

Bravely bearing ~ life's temptations ~ through sheer will - remain standing - strong...A poetic pearl exquisitely written...
