moments linger in the long hours of day
worry on the faces of pedestrians at a crosswalk
fuzzy lichen beneath a toilet seat soaking the joy
pavement bouncing over the intersection
drums of the ear
thumping like a dozen basketballs
there are hundreds of eyes that never meet
standing in dejected silence breathing fumes from a bus
all choreographed to steal Balanchine’s thunder

Great closing line!

Lichens under a toilet seat? eek. I do not want to get all biological on ya, but I doubt it, unless the toilet seat was on a rock or log or something... which is not unheard of :)

welcome, hope you stick around, enjoyed your poem-
