Click hereHercule Perot is a little round man,
But he has a lot of grey matter.
He sometimes finds himself in a tight squeeze,
With some bad criminal "Mad Hatter!"
He always explains about his grey cells,
And how they come to their solution.
In solving criminal complexities,
They're always right with their conclusion!
Across the Channel lives Sherlock Holmes,
A sleuth of deductive detection.
He uses Watson to scope out his thoughts,
There's no doubt he has some affection!
Sherlock would proclaim "With every fact known,
With every clue dismissed except one.
No matter how impossible it seems,
The one clue left behind is the "Gun!"
Across the sea lives a hard-boiled "Gumshoe,"
That hard drinking shooting Mike Hammer.
He always got the Babes but ran away,
He'd claim he couldn't stand their "Yammer!"
Mike worked like a bull in a China shop,
And he often got a busted head.
He'd pull his forty-five and start shooting,
And the bad guys mostly wound up dead!
Lets look at Spenser in "Old Boston Town,"
With his two helpers Vinnie and Hawk.
Vinnie and Hawk always backs Spenser up,
When Spenser faced some mobster to talk!
Spenser has Susan, a dark-haired beauty,
With a body and mind that's just right.
Her logical mind has helped Spenser out,
And if she has to, Susan can fight!
Travis Maggee travels Florida's Keys,
Living on his boat the "Busted Flush."
He helps to recover what's been taken,
And Evil, he sometimes has to crush!
He's got a friend who's a real professor,
Of economics, and beach bunnies.
Travis takes in every female in need,
He loves to help these pretty Honeys!
Travis Maggee's not a sleuth, you should know,
But a real "Adventurer" at heart.
He works on problems til they go away,
And collects his pay, when they depart!
Three and a half detectives are mentioned,
In this poem about written fiction.
It's easy to see why these characters,
Can evolve to a real addiction!!
Addictive indeed, with the best of the bunch from the pen of the late Mickey Spillane.

Return with this poet to the thrilling days of yore when out of the past comes all the TV Private Eyes. You won't have to look hard to find your favorites. A clever enjoyable poem. Nice trip down memory lane.
3 1/2 is just about the right score for this (IMHO). I like it better than your usual "dirty doggerel", but you forgot Matt Helm, another favorite in this genre. And a little farther afield, how about Remo Williams??
