A DIFFERENT TRUTH

A loner and a stranger in Piraeus tonight,
My tickets validating, preparing for my flight,
It's not a plain, it's a ship, to cross the blue Aegean,
Yet it's a flight from what I love, my grief is European.

I feel that I don't know this town that still I call my own,
I know nobody, it seems, by all I am unknown,
My loves are gone, also my friends, all chasing their youth,
Saronic gulf, your gray sky speaks of a different truth.

We are not young, we are not old, we may be disenchanted,
What happened guys? What happened girls? Did we understand it?
This "New World Order" seems to thrive, did we try to stop it?
You see a snake, you hold an axe, so, why don't you chop it?

A loner and a stranger, waiting for no reply,
The blue Aegean smiles to me, forget my every "why",
My tickets validated, and life is what I make,
I'll carry on for all our sakes, with snake or no snake.

Liked it

I like the sentiment and build of this poem.

I think that there is too much rhyme in it for my taste & that the last line with 'snake or no snake' is awkward sounding. Nonetheless, it is a poem that I want to read and read again.
