A Nice Little Visit

A NICE LITTLE VISIT

i saw sarah today.
she doesn't take me for granted.
there is one thing
that she is really good at -
that is listening.
she keeps telling me
that i need to be a better listener.
i tell her that i'm working on it.
we're at this real nice bar
where we've taken
a table somewhat away from people.
her fashion of clothing
is appealing, but not quite
to the point where guys
walk by as if their eyes pop out.
she tells me, "if you ever need anything,
don't be afraid to ask."
i tell her, "that's really nice -
would you like another drink?"
"no thanks, i'm good."
i paused for a bit and asked,
"would you mind coming to my place tonight,
because something is bothering me?"
she pulled her blonde hair back
and studied me for a bit,
and simply said, "i'd be glad to."
we left the bar and shortly
arrived at my place.
i went to the bookcase
and pointed to all the paperbacks,
"what can you tell me about them?"
she looks them over and says,
"some are adventure, others sci-fi
and certainly there are love stories."
"that's good," i say, "but there is a problem."
she looks at me not sure what to think,
and cautiously says, "what's that?"
i stared at her for a bit -
turned my head and looked out the window,
and after a minute, faced her again,
and said, "it was nice to hang out for a bit,
but right now you are just fiction!!"
