warsaw downtown
an old woman
hunched back
scans the hostile sidewalks

if i as much as glance at her
she makes the sign of the cross
and mumbles at me
black hair black eye bad spell

an ocean and a continent away today
i scan the friendly san jose downtown
my hair is gray
and my eyes not so black
i mumble at me
black hair black eye bad spell
