a row of heads heavy with the day
black ribbon
torn
to release the emptiness

pine
pale and smooth
lowered year by year
until this moment

this moment

conclusion to a man
inspiration of laughter to tears
deep and real and free

tears
so many tears
mortar for the bricks of memories
of other moments

before this moment

cloudless raining down
upon the black shoes of his children
bleaching the day's colors to white roses and baby's breath
prior transgressions washed clean
revealing a world the color of salt
