An angel offered me candy in the park today
And even though Momma said
'Now girl, don't take nothing from strangers'
Surely she didn't mean God's own messengers
He said 'God has something he wanted me to show you'
And he took me aside
Pulled out a dolly-sized sandwich bag
A razor
And a straw with some nameless fast food chain lettering its paper wrapper
Five minutes later, I knew the guy was for real
Because Heaven had parked itself inside of my head
The back of my throat was numb
I was innocent and reborn again
I lie down to relax and the angel straddles me
Backlit with sunshine
Tells me stories of how screwed up life can be
Six or seven years later, I'm still laying on the ground, he's still talking
And now I'm starting to believe.
