I stand alone in this world.
Just a man with nobody else.
No family nor friends to rely on.
Nomadic in nature I stand alone.

Today I thought about you.
How incredible you make me feel.
What might have been.
Thoughts so wonderful to me.

Making plans that do not matter.
Imagining where we could be.
Wanting you close to me each day.
Plans for a future that do not matter.

Meeting for the first time in years.
Life has been very good to you.
Loving husband and wonderful kids.
Happiness I have never known.

Across the room I admire you.
That family you keep together.
Compassion and caring for each other.
Look at me I adore you.

Make believe

Sojourning in the land of what could have been ~ always forced to return to that lonely place. Beautiful evocative piece.

~~

That love that slipped away and married another;

Together raising that family that could have been yours.
