Does it hurt to die?
Probably.
More than to live?
Probably not.

He swallowed 47 pills and panicked
Called the crisis line and begged
For help to live
And he lived.

He jumped in front of a fast moving car
The woman swerved and missed
Thought he was deer
And he lived.

Slit his wrists and the blood only dripped
Missed the artery and the vein
Nasty cuts but stitches closed them up
And he lived.

Took the belt from his robe and hung himself
Dangling from the bathroom stall
Of a mental ward but was found in time
And he lived.

Nine days in a coma but he lived
Or did he? What is living?
A tormented, tortured mind
Aching, hurting, battered

Does it hurt to die?
Not as much as it hurts to live
Inside of him
He begged to die…

And he lived.
