a high-gloss fantasy
to a wallflower in Wisconsin
who dreamed a day with me
I submitted twice
dreadful poetry
to crowds engulfed in whips and chains
who whispered soothingly
I submitted three times
to rack my memory
of how it was I ended up
where I never wanted to be
