your life has been uneven
moments of happiness and joy
ended too soon by pain

your love so eagerly given
was not returned
in full measure

there beats a heart full of love
with a need to share
and a willingness to give

while alone at night you sob
and wonder why
you do not have love

your mind is afire
with doubt and dispair
and hopelessness

sleep is slow coming
as you lie alone thinking
and imagining true love

dreams of touches
and looks of admiration
fill that empty void

words heard in your mind
from your fantasy lover
calm and give you peace

but daylight wipes away that place
so perfect and tranquil
where your love is returned

and life grabs you again
and drags you through rituals
unsatisfying and established

until you let yourself drift away
your mind seeking again
that special place of love

while the angels above
feel your sorrow
and they cry for you
