He lies in his bed
And we sit around the room
Like actors in a waiting room scene
Mum on the end of the bed
Holding his hand and willing her life into him
I sit in the other chair with the dog
Looking at the man who has shaped my world
But silent
Words, like tears, have all dried up
Carol sits between us all
A mediator perhaps,
Her strength fills the holes where ours has fallen out
We wait
We wait
We all know the angel will come soon
Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow
But come he will, my father's angel
And until that time
All we can do is
Wait
