Reveling in dark emotions,
images too frightening to contemplate,
raking over the cold ashes of despair
we run, hiding from our dreams.
Aimless in our progress
we grasp for proximal reassurance
that we are thriving;
we deny our disappointment.
Forever optimistic,
we smile at the world
and continue along the road
of which we are most certain.
And then, we arise again.
