Upon the wind I hear the geese in flight –
their eerie catcalls fill the autumn sky,
the air is cold and there's no moon tonight.

The naked trees stand stiff and ghostly white
as a fast car makes all the dry leaves fly –
upon  the wind I hear the geese in flight.

I know there's only just some more respite
before the cruel snows come sweeping by –
the air is cold and there's no moon tonight

and my old dog howls like a child in fright
as overhead harsh voices moan and cry:
upon the wind it hears the geese in flight.

The dark solidifies as on the height
the ghosts of autumn whisper ere they die –
the air is cold and there's no moon tonight.

Time pivots on the sun; for months the light
will hesitantly waver, grown too shy –
Upon the wind I hear the geese in flight;
the air is cold and there's no moon tonight.

my old dog howls like a child in fright

as overhead harsh voices moan 'n cry :

a brilliantly descriptive couplet even as a standalone & a sentiment any Dog owner or Dog Lover will second !!...& 5-ed.
