so there I was
propped against the bar
well beyond the blue
hours of the law

and then there you were
beside me
wondering why I was
all alone

too much vodka
under the bridge
for me to picture
our first kiss
of the morning

how did I end up
staggering round the aisles
of that cavernous store
questing for condoms

only matchlight flashes
of our entwining
all the way home
in the backseat
of a cab

quick pictures
of your body
and the carnival
of skin and sweat and hair
in your bed

we woke up
wrapped like sausage
in the comforter
