among languid evenings,
rock-strewn streams,
and luminous star-music,
we were magi of the forest-
gold chalice, black-handled blade,
for us a green world was made,
but in the acid dawn
disaster looms in the rising sun
and the circle smashes
against the stone.
exotic birds feed
on the exposed marrow
and ghosts haunt our emptiness.
