Breath halted by the knife
it's come to this
smoky indulgence
drowning in past life sorrow
in a neighborhood bar
smell of desperation
still clinging
to fingers stained
with nicotine
and hard time
she mewed so softly
offering her throat
to blind hope
he could not allow
such beauty to exist
