**This poem is based on a dream I had back
in June 2001**
senior year
high school girl
dolled up for prom
in a flapper dress
of bubblegum pink
sequins
looking
searching
for perfect jewelry
and handbag
tears running
down her face
because cheap stockings
have several runs
and no date for tonight
arriving in a limo
solo
she discovers her
best friend betrayed her
by going with a date
and leaving her
high and dry
she is the evening's
wallflower
blending into the
bubblegum pink walls
at the prom
alone
and forgotten
