Colorful cars zoom zoom zooming down highways beeline dancing trees
Green summer leaves laugh at us hitchers going anywhere to nowhere
Hoping to find a new home inbetween open hearts and dreaming heads
But how do we know where to go when we don't know where to look
Is there a map that gives directions to those who are lost in time

We're hitchers hiking with arms akimbo thumbing rides to neverland
We've stuffed all of our wishes and dreams into vagabond bags
Hoping to make it across the wondering states in one wandering piece
As we hitch and we hike thumbs up and thumbs out to unknown skies

California dreaming and fireflies are out tonight
Lighting up wishes in the evening sky
Falling stars fall from wishing minds
Falling falling falling from dreaming heads
We're pulling down stars with glowing hands
Dreamers needing light to wrap around our souls
To keep us warm when the sun hides his face
To keep us safe when the moon showers fate

California dreaming California dreaming California dreaming
Everybody's California dreaming from New York City to Austin
Inbetween and all the way over to dreamers lost in Boston
We're hitchers hiking all the way to California dreaming lands

Warily we're trying to hitch our way back to neverland
Where smiling childhood dressers stand still forever
Skip skip skip we're merrily skipping down memory lane
Looking for cookies and cake and everything we ate
Before we foolishly got stuck inbetween time and fate

One two buckle our shoes three four shut the door
Five six pick up sticks seven eight shut the gate
Nine ten we're looking for dreams under our skin
As we hitch and we hike under random blue skies

California dreaming and fireflies are out tonight
Lighting up wishes in the evening sky
Falling stars fall from wishing minds
Falling falling falling from dreaming heads
We're pulling down stars with glowing hands
Dreamers needing light to wrap around our souls
To keep us warm when the sun hides his face
To keep us safe when the moon showers fate

California dreaming California dreaming California dreaming
Everybody's California dreaming from New York City to Austin
Inbetween and all the way over to dreamers lost in Boston
We're hitchers hiking all the way to California dreaming lands

With trigger fingers on action we're shooting blame out of the way
Faster than ten speedy hands can push circles through squares
We're hitchers hiking with arms akimbo thumbing rides to neverland
As colorful cars zoom zoom zooming pass us by and by
Making sweet haste as they race towards the edge of the sky

We're connecting dots to dreams California's not as far as it seems
Just one giant leap and one fast run to avoid the burn of the sun
Just one big hop and one swift run to avoid the swoon of the moon
As we hitch and we hike our way towards California dreaming skies

California dreaming and fireflies are out tonight
Lighting up wishes in the evening sky
Falling stars fall from wishing minds
Falling falling falling from dreaming heads
We're pulling down stars with glowing hands
Dreamers needing light to wrap around our souls
To keep us warm when the sun hides his face
To keep us safe when the moon showers fate

California dreaming California dreaming California dreaming
Everybody's California dreaming from New York City to Austin
Inbetween and all the way over to dreamers lost in Boston
We're hitchers hiking all the way to California dreaming lands
