Click hereA kitten a cat and a mouse
wandered up to the big house
"just watch" said the kitten
batting her eyes
"humans are easily fooled by guise"
she's treated as precious
cuddled and adored
"but wait," said the cat
"perhaps there's a bit more
needed than love"
dropping at human feet a dove
for this the cat is milk
and the tail of a fish
and a bed made of silk
"no, look" said the mouse
with pure grit in his gaze
"you two think you have run of this place
but look at me running down halls
climbing the pipes
scaling the walls
I take what they drop and store it away
I have more than enough for any rainy day.
And you two, the humans, one day will stop care
forget to fill your bowl
stop petting your hair.
I'll watch you here failing from my perch on the shelf
I'll watch you there calling for me to show myself
for you know if you catch me
they'll love you again
but I'll scurry and hide
you'll never catch me alive."
The kitten nodded gravely
"why, mouse, you've spoke true,
here let me give a kiss to you."
And you know where this goes
'cause you can't trust a kitten
they just look too innocent
and you find yourself smitten
but the lesson tucked in
is a cat is a cat
and mouse is a mouse
it's as simple as that
