The ghosts of hurts past
Haunt our every waking moment
Threatening to frighten away
Those we need most.
Transparent are they
Showing themselves only when
The stakes are the highest.
Weeding out the weak of soul
Frightening off the faint of heart.
Only the strongest survive and stay.
Stay to help us dust away the cobwebs
To brighten up the dark corners
And to exorcise the ghosts
That present themselves as saviors
But are really demons in disguise.
