I understand why people take their lives
At this time of year.
So much is expected of oneself:
Be cheerful
Be happy
Make merry.
I can play the game, look the part
But on the inside, I’m dying.
Life is impossible without magic
And magic is impossible without love.
And love …
Love is the only gift that grows when it’s given.
Yet mine withers and dies
For there is no heart out there
To receive all I have to give.
So, my gift remains wrapped in bright paper
Waiting for the day
When Christmas finally comes again.
