CHRISTMAS PRESIES

Again I'm buying Christmas presies,
and cards to send to everyone,
I decorate them with daisies
they do look pretty, duty done!
(Post office, have with it some fun).

It's not a duty of the season,
it is an impulse of the heart,
unable to express its reason,
ordering items a la carte,
(it does feel better than half-smart).

But still forgetting which December
-winter of any discontent-
was that which altered its fair temper,
or stop its stylish lark ascent,
(presies continued to be sent).

But it was like "no, nay, never",
singing, "no, nay, never, no more",
which proved that hearts are not that clever,
but still they knock on heaven's door,
(why! I had thought of that before).
