Communicating through the 'net
Exploring, learning, and yet
That glowing screen at which we stare
Veils true meanings in the glare

Wondrous technology can reach so far
All around our great blue world
But this science left a cold legacy
Keeping us isolated from intimacy

Joy and laughter
Concern or anger
Turning one away
Or leading one on
Is helped along by emoticons

No contact eye to eye, face to face
Just words sent out through space
No body language, nor voice inflections
And hidden too, our facial expressions

Tho' words are very powerful
And at times can be concise
In written conversation
They may not be precise

Where is the warmth of your smile
Or the sparkling in your eyes
Your brows furrowed or raised
So much only one's face can convey

Now here's a verse a bit older

reflecting my predilection for things mundane;

like seeing expressions

and hearing inflections

and touching the flesh

while smelling perfume

and tasting.........

well, we'll not go there today.........
