CROATIAN HOLIDAYS 3 / POSTLUDE
A wise but uncertain ancient script,
advising you: Let poetry be mute,
a chaste holiday take to Split,
where things can never be untruth or brute,
persuades you to go, after all,
connections discontinuing in brief
with some big things that now look so small,
amongst them human feeling been the chief.
A hectic week for mortals poor like us,
abortions, cancelled gigs, a sense of loss,
our problems could be solved with some more cash,
about love we could not give a toss.
Particulars are scarce and Split is far,
the ancient script is clear: Let go mute,
don't even guess, by plain or by car,
the certainty is this: She's always cute!
Obedience well due the muse demands,
the poets socked but silently obey,
the ancient script applies to other lands,
but not to this Croatian holiday.
There is so much unsaid for lack of skill,
irrelevant to loving or to musing,
so many thousand songs unwritten still
that make this fucking ancient script confusing.
And yet, there's always hope about Split,
there's always ancient prophesy or curse,
malignant dreaming wish that couples split,
especially when its details are scarce.
I cannot love you free, I'm not Saint Paul,
"Corinthian's First" don't bother me a bit,
sometimes I think I don't love you at all,
but still I hope that you enjoy Split.
POSTLUDE TO THROUGH NEED AND DECENCY
My notebook has finished,
not my soliloquy,
my passion not diminished,
D major still my key,
I'm dreaming still about you,
the wonder that you were,
I'm used to live without you,
don't comment, don't you dare.
