I sit here and think
of days gone by.
Of childhood hopes,
dreams, wishes and fears.
Of jumping ropes
and climbing trees,
of swimming holes
and what used to be.
Of skinned up knees
and broken toys
Of friendships made
between girls and boys.
Life was so simple
back then
Nothing ever happened
that daddy couldn’t mend.
But that was all so
very long ago
When everything was
simple and easy.
If only we could turn
back the hands of time
Maybe then we wouldn’t
have drifted so far apart.
We never talk or
write each other
We never seem to be
able to see each other
or get along.
So many things
are left unsaid
I feel as if
you think I’m dead.
Oh how I long for days
gone by
Of swimming holes
and girls and boys.
Of broken toys
and skinned up knees
And the days of you and me.
Back when life was
simple and easy.
How do I explain to my son
it’s nothing that he’s done
That Grandpa loves him
but will never come?
Apologies made but
never excepted.
Hearts break and time is
forever lost.
My love for you
will never end
Perhaps someday,
Daddy
will forgive.
