Sometimes
   at night.
When the fog settles in.

The night seems to come so
   slowly.
      reluctantly.
         carefully.

That you can’t tell it’s gone
   dark.
Until the streetlights
   click
      on
         one
            by
               one.

And you wonder
   in the dark.
      silenced.
         by the fog.
If you’re alone in the world.

Time moves in funny ways
   without the stars
      or moon
To mark it.

Soon enough the world
   turns.
      spins.
And takes you to the dawn

Even wandering
   alone.
      in dampened silence.
The dawn still comes.

We can’t see it
   right away.
      in the fog.
But the light is there.

Because dawn
   comes
      anyway.
Even if no one is watching.
