DE jA vU/FINDING YOU/2003

In another time and place
Another world exists
And all of life that's been and gone
Still lives, but with a twist.
Like a mirror's surface
It's normal at first glance
But closer up it is reversed :
Life in a second chance.

The moon still hides behind a sky
All clouded grey with rain
And all the puddles there before
Still soak the streets the same.
The lights that prick the night still glow,
Still catch the sparks of ice
That shimmer in the sharpened air
Held firm in Autumn's vice.

*****

The first time round on a cold dark night
The sky was black and the moon took flight,
Rain blurred a cloudy sky
She was drunk and wondering why
Her life had ever been such a curse
(This night before we see this world in reverse).
He approached her from the bar
And said "How beautiful you are."
They talked and touched and bonded fast
He thought she was special and they could last.
And she loved him too but didnt say,
Even though he had a way
To talk some sense into her drunken mind
She thought he was handsome and caring and kind.

She led him to the toilets and he locked the door
He felt her tits and kissed her much harder than before.
He was honest and totally blunt
"I want you baby"He begged her as he fingered her cunt.
He took out his cock, she stroked it, she wanted him so much
And she knew she loved him from the moment that they touched.
He wanted to fuck her there and then, but there was no way
Cos cameras watched the toilet doors that would give them away.
She said "Give me half an hour and then I'll leave with you."
And he told her "Hurry back cos I have things to do.."
And as she turned to leave he gripped her by the wrist,
Hurting in a bruise of love as he stole one more kiss.

She took a taxi home and put some money in her purse
She drank coffee, sobered up but was feeling worse
From drinking for eight hours, and when she went to go
Too much time had slipped away
He had to leave and couldn't stay
She had taken far too long
And her lover now was gone.
All she had to remember him by
Was the marks on her wrist when they'd said goodbye.
But can all this play out again, a second chance to meet?
Picture this scenario, changed in a heartbeat:

*****

Everything is set in place,
The same things all remain -
The glasses and the bottles,
The spooky paperchains,
The friends who sit there drinking,
The dust upon the clock,
The door that bangs and rattles
As the wind give it a knock,
The old and faded carpet,
Even that's the same -
All worn and needing cleaning
And marked with countless stains.

And in this place two people meet
They touch like passing ships
He puts her hand upon his chest
His heart pounds as they kiss.
And everything plays out the same,
The time, the place, the weather -
Except that in this other world
The lovers leave, Together.
