I'm going through a bad time
he said to me with a smile.
The bills are are too much
the dog is keeping me up
and I can't get rid of this cold.
I don't think I can handle this now.
You understand.

Reduced to a distraction
and not a pleasant one at that.
I can give him money -
keep the shylocks at bay -
walk the dog round the block
feed him chicken soup.
All this, and more.

You would think that by now
after all this time
there would be no pain
at the thought of feeling
your silky golden strands
slip through my fingers.

lost me...

at the last two lines, which are confusing not only because of the change of pronoun (he to you) but also silky golden strands slipping through fingers. Hair? confused. But I really like the first two stanzas.
