Daybreak in lapis lazuli,
transparent morning, centred on
one star - a single dot of brilliance,
high ideals that bind profound
desire - lonely, cold and distant,
utterly out of reach.  Too soon
the limpid sky will brighten.  Slowly
day will banish the pure dawn
because perfection's never ours
to be attained.  Yet, passing through
the heart there's all the colour of
another sunrise, all the hopeless
expectation that a single
instance of this breathless beauty
will revive.  All senses come
 alive to being's promise, bitter,
sweet – spellbound, I stand and sway
 as once again all aspirations
slowly, slowly sink away.

5ed!

This is a very beautiful description of something that doesn't last long outside but carries on inside us. I always watch what you call lapis lazuli (!), cause I'm always awake at that time and lucky for living under (usually) clear skies. Thanks for sharing.
