You are so human
next to me tonight.
Pale back rising and falling
blue with moonlight.
Breath deep and fragile,
a tender link
to hold you here beside me in the world.

And I imagine this is how we should always be -
Warm and naked
and folded into one another like paper.
But we are just skin and bone
and water
and electricity

And the fear
and my wayward aching heart
keep you restless
hovering around me like dust
trapped in a sunbeam
Unable to settle.

Ah, that last stanza... Really beautiful image. My very first thought was to think that it stood taller than the rest of the poem, but what precedes it is a necessary buildup. Very good!

I liked this, Ruby

The fear and aching heart and their result seemed real
