flaky salmon pink vapour trails in the pale turquoise sky
sharpen up and disappear behind the fells like lightning strikes
sparkling white fields against the rosy bright horizon
full of recently awoken sheep stealthily eating their frosty breakfast
low lying fields with frozen puddles that glint in the sunrise like fish scales

the low lying mist drifting in from the sea like a net
a row of fishermen along the prom their rods bisecting the chill morning air
their lines disappearing into the high tide water
the wide expanse of estuary reflecting the sky smooth and still
the sky full of seagulls looking for their first catch of the day

travelling upstream on the A590 approaching the town
the sleepy houses with their eyes still closed tight
Glaxo chimneys, the church steeple and fishbone winter trees
rising up black and stark against the dawning sky
as if trying to escape their earthbound existence

rereading

"sharpen up and disappear" and "fishbone winter trees" are so vivid. The whole poem slapped me in the face like a floundering (in a good and lively way), scaled, sea creature but those two phrases made me read through four times, just to catch them again.

Very lovely poem. It has been recommended on literotica's poetry forum in the poem poems review thread.
