A perfect autumn has transformed the field.
It's long been bare, but now a coat of leaves,
a reddish blanket, covers up the rills
and stagnant ruts. The frightened farmer fled,
before the coming rumble left his farm
a colour like those leaves. The field, unkempt,
grew weedy from neglect; nobody took
the slightest notice of it, till one day
the carts returned and gaping holes were dug
and filled up with their load. No holes remain;
the fields unevenness alone still shows -
but even that will change with this year's snows.

Reading so much into this, Demure.

Reading battle and death and endings. Will it be tilled again? Will the trees that dropped the leaves slowly take it back?
