i don't need
a break
she said
i need
a change
and she
was gone

seemingly
abrupt
suddenness
in life
is ever
so slow
in coming

watch
the film
backwards
and the inciting
incident makes
sound perfect sense
becomes crystal clear
choices fate plot chance
conspire to create dramatic
character conflict development

but there is no going back
the end credits are rolling
the houselights come up
outside the theater of self
the sun shocks and impales
our sin and suffering inward
and leaves it to disintegrate
upon the cutting room floor
