Made a fortune running his Dad's warehouse
Naturally here on FB

I called him
       after the title
       famous circus novel
       circus of life
My father loved that tome
Carried on vacation
I read it years later
It went on and on
      still further
No wonder they never filmed it
Best friend Gus
Tall thin
Now fleshy
Big nose
Pop eyes
Gentle, warm
Self-involved
Surprisingly broad shoulders
When I came home
She said you'd come by
       an obvious erection
Made her blush
She said you made a pass at her
I hit you the next time I saw you
You denied
You were always prurient
But I believed her
She was a fireball
Our friendship ended
Then the same story with other men
I finally realized
Her plan to peel me of any friends
       skinless banana
So she might consume me all by herself
Lost friendship
       lost trust
           never regained
