The marks are fading
but the scars only
deepen with the
passing of time.
Puckered flesh,
laced with all
the snarls of
a love gone awry,
turns my sad,
tattered soul into
a carnival of pain.

The bruises and cuts
of your love fade away,
leaving only
wounds that never
really heal but
simply scar over to
be broken open again
on a whim from you.
my bleeding heart
cries out your name
and is answered
with silence.
