                Faith

                  I.

When he was dead she said proudly
That there’d been a husband for you –
He’d been wholly hers, she bragged loudly,
He’d always been perfectly true,

Her dear husband. But, just at a glance,
I’d say that inspired by fear
He’d obliged her. She would lead the dance
And he’d follow suit, in the rear.

                  II.

‘He’s a bit of rake, yes I know,’
She said with a quiet smile,
‘And I never know where he may go,
But anyhow, after a while,
He will always come back to me,
Worn for the lacking me -
Will not lose track of me -
  Darling old Jack of mine
Will break this back of mine
When he loves me again, in grand style!’
