Most poems presented as haikus on this site are not actually haikus. Yours followed the rules. I have always been of the opinion that the rules are stupid, and I write many short poems in whatever cadence seems to suit the poem. However, I found the rhythm of your poem to be very effective. Maybe the Japanese are onto something after all.
