It seemed to her that nothing was going to work
That she would be freezing on a summer day
And not need a coat in winter

That she would be calm while the earth was quaking
And scream with fright when it rained

When the cut of a whip would bring her bliss
And a kiss just brought her pain

It seemed there was nothing she could do
To make things right again

But then she known from the start
It was a chance she was taking
So here she was with a hole in her heart
All of her own making

Sometimes in life you make mistakes and look back with anger
Sometimes you look back in fear
But she was looking back with loneliness

Mistakes are made in an instance
Chances lost, dreams shattered, hearts broken
Lies told
Trust is a fragile thing…crystal breaking upon a marble floor

The emptiness was unending
Hollow
She would never be filled again
Filled with that feeling of knowing that she would be fine
As long as she had him

Gone
Lightning flashes of insecurity
A moment of sheer stupidity
And a lifetime of self-flagellation
Well deserved.

She wished she had cradled it carefully in her hands
And placed it in a basket
Lined with feather and soft cotton
To keep herself from hurting it in her rush
But she did not

Grief, despair, mourning
The death of that which you most treasured
And took for granted
Leaving it out without thinking
Until the sun faded it away
Into just memories

Goodnight to you
Sweet dreams upon your pillow
Go to sleep, my love
And know that I am with you
Lips stained with suffering pressed to your forehead
As you squelch desire
Move on to the next exit
Move on
