copywrite 1998, O'Dwyer

The Past

memories, like shad
swim beneath the wake of life
in time's dark river

mortal man's great king
left behind his worldly throne
 for a rat's one flea

in another time
I keen my eyes to look back
 and see the future

the world seen clearly
through the looking glass of time
is made of circles

1998 - April

The Present

we can only see
as far as the horizon
when our feet stand still

sun, a tree, a brook
scintillate, and make shadow
 to sooth my dry soul

dark, furrowed new ground
 rain beguiles each sodden trench
and lights my pathway
