(A thought to warm a winter night)

Heralding Spring

Last winter day sighs
Fades and dies.

Night silently grieves
The spent day.
Bestowing diamond tears.
Yields to morn and
Ghosts away.

Feathered friends greet
unfolding dawn.

Infant day, cherub- bright, rising
Phoenix from ashen light.
Caresses mother earth.
Nesting blackbirds lay
Imprisoned songs in every egg.

Rose unfolds, detaching dew.
And Spring is here anew.
