“hungrier than I thot” — Ishmael Reed

i thought         with this last chapter
you’d be easy to dismiss         far better
touched by a fish         than dismissed by a
love         but it stays hungry

thing is         you said         you’re a decent person
when was that ever not enough?
there’s too much too tell         not
enough to tell

and where you are i do not know
nor do i care         you are where
small white plastic grocery sacks
flutter in the wind         caught in

the limbs of thorny shrubs         you
are where scents i never knew before
come         unbidden every time i shower
in an unfamiliar place

and they are all unfamiliar places
and i wish you well         i do
withdrawing pardon from the pastern months
while i die somewhat

Whoa

this is too much, agree with Jim, I may have stronger feelings about it then he does.

"pastern" I'll accept that, whoa

A haunting sadness

somehow lurking there, something you can't seem to shake. I like the suspense you create with your breaks within the lines, the stilted read emphasizing that despite the resolve that things are over, something keeps sneaking in. Well done.

funky

are the spaces supposed to be like that? I want to go back and read this, a lot of cool images, like the white plastic bag floating... but the spacing was distracting for me. Did you do it for a reason, I would love to know, I might go Ah HA! and look at it differently. I should spend more time with this poem. It is definately worth it. I will try. :)
