ferocious spines
coat of armour
forbidden exterior
pinching and prodding
prickly and sticky
ready to battle
waiting for Spring
my transformation
the hidden swelling
quiet beauty within
burgeoning, beckoning
until that warm day
when radiance returns
a pinwheel of brilliance
lavender surprise
fading quickly in the sun
shy in the lonely desert
as the blossom fades
I return to my inner shell
pulling the rough sandpaper shut
my secrets are safe
surrounded by stiff soldiers
ready to battle once more
stuck in a cactus
waiting for the light
waiting for love
