I Need A Family

Lonely child
Lost in the dark
Praying for one thing
Knowing my hope is stark

I stare out the window
And with tears in my eyes
I whisper my words into the night
Sending my prayer up to the skies

"Anyone out there?
Can you hear me?
I'm still here and alone.
Can you send me a family?"

Just a kid
In an unfamiliar place
My family torn apart
No one to plead my case

Now I'm here
Curled up in a ball
Gazing out at the dark night
My prayer an unanswered call

As I drift into a fitful sleep
My cheeks are stained with tears
My heart breaks a little more
The future holds many lonely years
