Through a city where the days go by
And the night is all that counts,
And the people--
They just don't care no more--
Are stuck living lives they don't want.
Through this city,
Along its cement pathways
I shuffle my feet along,
Letting the sun roast my bare neck.
My head is down
As I stumble around
And my hands,
They're kept shoved deep in my pockets.
I walk with no destination
And I'm in no hurry;
My time is already up,
All I've got to do is fall.
The wind blows my hair
And the sun begins to set
As the children point and laugh,
ScreamingHey motherfucker!
Hey motherfucker!

I walk on nevertheless,
Indifferent.
My feet keep stepping
And I just let them go,
I just let them take me.
I bow my head lower,
Burying into my jacket.
I let myself think I'm invisible,
That all these people can't see me
But my mind isn't in my head
And it's myself that doesn't see.
I feel someone knock my side
But I don't turn around
And as I walk on,
I can see the children point and laugh,
ScreamingHey motherfucker!
Hey motherfucker!

Finally,
The sun has set behind me
And I slide comfortably into the shadows.
More and more people appear around me,
But still they don't notice.
No.
Not at all.
Neon lights brighten the sky
And every color crosses the sidewalk.
The sidewalk is where I stare;
The sidewalk is where I'll fall.
I bring my hand up
To make sure I have everything.
I feel it under my shirt--
Cold, hard,
Indifferent.
Just like me.
No one is looking now,
But a child.
As she looks up at me,
She's about to point and laugh.
She's about to screamHey motherfucker!
But the gunshot cuts her off.
