I’m here in the shadows,
Just behind her,
The new girl you’ve chosen,
You can’t see me,
Because I stand in her shadow.

I wish you could see me,
Don’t you realise,
I’ve been here all along,
Just waiting for you to notice me.

Don’t you realise,
I see you, I always have,
But I’m the quiet, shy girl,
Who won’t take the chance,
For fear that you’ll only reject me,
Without bothering to take a chance.

Maybe one day I’ll speak up,
And I know you’ll be surprised,
Because you always thought,
That we were just friends.

Guess you didn’t realise,
You’ve confused me lately,
With all of your mixed signals.

I wish you could see me,
But I understand that you can’t,
It’s the way it’s always been,
I even understand why.

Like always I quietly accept it,
And continue to be your friend,
Wishing it was different,
But knowing it won’t change.

With my one single thought,
I wish you could see me,
The way I see you.
