I used to watch Icarus
Jump across your bicep
As you moved.
Such an odd tattoo.
I never understood
How Icarus never knew
That he was too close
Damned to fall
However high he flew.
Hubris, better than the gods
I thought I could bring you through
I believed those impossible odds
You swore that you had told the truth.
But when the slow burn began
Wax dripped, came loose
I was clinging to the horizon
Reaching out for your scorching hand
Stretching out to grasp you
Obliterated in the glare
There were so many feathers
Feathers falling everywhere.

Well told
and very original!
Some nice twists and turns here, very original.
Invoking
I notice so many people don't seem to like poetry, compared to the erotic story section, the poetry section is looking a little bare. I hope this changes at some point. Your poem stood out. It's always neat to invoke a classic and still manage to make it your own.more...
