I'm over you now

I saw something tonight that made brought you to my mind.
Caravaggio, and as I lie here, in the sleepless dark,
Trying to write lines that I won't remember in the morning
I can't dislodge your memories.

But I'm over you now

As I lie here, sleeplessly turning, next to someone
Who deserves my devotion far more than you ever did,
I realise guiltily that after meeting you
My life changed more than I could ever have realised

I'm over you now

Our difference I could not see as a barrier to communication,
You led one life and I led another,
We worked well together one and one, inter relating,
So strange to be so close, and not cross the line.

I am over you now

You took and you took, and I gave and I gave,
And in that giving I fooled myself that the traffic ran both ways.
Until at last the fool was saved,
We were separated and the traffic stilled.

No, I am over you now

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder,
But cooling distance allows the mind's eye to focus
And free from your presence I could ponder
On the way I felt and kick away at my self imposed direction.

But I'm over you now

We're apart now we don't even speak
As once we did for hours, using words to cross miles
And now I don't look, I don't even seek,
For contact. I don't miss you

I think I'm over you now.

I feel such a fool for seeing what wasn't there,
But now I'm seeing what was and what wasn't.
I'm afraid to hear you in case I'm wrong
And I'm not over you yet.

And I tell myself I’m over you now.
