In My Dreams

I've edged your essence into memorial;
held your hands and sniffed your hair
10,000 times; shared your triumphs;
cried in your darkest moments; tasted
sorrow and happiness by your side and
run away 10,000 times to stand where
I first started. Falling to my knees,
I've begged your forgiveness. Like air,
your existence pervaded the fabric of
my being. Distance afforded no hiding
places, as you've transcended time to
bare my soul. I've yearned to know
you, yet knowing you has diminished
me to naught. In agony and defeat, I
still dreamed, and in my dreams I've
held you in my arms, held your hands,
and sniffed your hair 10,000 times.
